"
" There was open discussion about how to remedy the parking problem next year.
5. Teacher and Faculty holiday gift collection

" The rates for the gifts will be based on whether the gift is for a homeroom teacher or part-time teacher.
" Daycare will also be included in the division of funds
OPEN DISCUSSION
" On average how much does each family donate- you can do the math by dividing the amount collected by the families in the school.
" What was the total raised last year? Close to $10,000.00
" How much did the teachers receive last year? - $250-$350.00
" What if we don't raise, as much would the PVC cover the difference? We feel that we will collect more than last year.
" Were the teachers happy with their gift? YES, as a matter of fact, the PVC received many thank you notes.

Principal's Report- Mr. Muir
1. Skid Row
" Annual trip to skid row with Angel on My Shoulder
" It was truly an inspiration for the kids and parents
" The kids get so much out of their experience.
" We put together over 250 sleeping bags, along with sandwiches care packages, personal healthcare items, clothes and canned food
" It was the largest group he has seen and he said it "looked like family Sunday Mass!"
" We had a blessing before heading down.
" So many kids were working hard to find items for people, and most of the clothes were passed out.
" The kids seemed different coming back - appreciative of their own blessings.
2. Science Club
" Afterschool Science club is up and running and off to a great start
" We wondered how it would go over and we were happy that it filled up right away
" The kids are having a great time and are really into what they are doing
" Ms. Stolo and Mrs. Olgin are doing a great job. Thanks to Mrs. Carmody for volunteering to assist.
" Cost for the program is over $10,000. But the cost to each student was only $50.00 per child.
" We thank the St. Cyril's Foundation for helping us to offer this to our students and defray the cost.
Open Discussion
" Many people were turned away that wanted to get into the club…could we do one day a week instead of 2, so more kids could get into the program?
" That would be difficult as you really need 2 days to do a lab
" Ms. Stolo could do a lab in one day and we could try and reorganize the program, but we would like to do more advanced stuff.
" We may be able to add another group in the future- 1st -4th is the biggest group with 30 kids
" We are open to suggestions to how we can accommodate more kids.
3. Accelerated Reader Program
" There are over 10,000 quizzes on different types of literature from elementary to high school
" Students can take a test on the comprehension of a story
" Quizzes will be available for 2nd-8th grade and will be available for 1st graders as they learn to read.
" It has been tested with the kids who are in the Academic Decathlon with a web based program that they can do from home
" This is already done at St. Francis
" It is an exciting program that the kids are enthusiastic about.
4. Basketball
" Basketball has begun
" We added a 2nd boys "B" team as we had too many players- there are nearly 100 kids playing.
" There will be a 5th grade team and a 6th grade team
" The coach is Kristen Winn. She is a Kiniesiolgy major at CSUN, with a minor in Physical Education
" Kristen took over the group and is a natural with the kids.
" Mr. Kozell is the 6th grade coach
5. Safety in the parking lot
There was a funeral today and while it was going on there was a break-in in the parking lot. The video camera tape showed the person hanging out in front of the hall and Estella saw him and chased him off. Unfortunately, the camera did not pick up the license plate number of his car.
PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN YOUR CAR IS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT. Don't leave valuable items in your car.
" Additional discussion was brought up about a motor home parked on Firmament.
6. Spanish Club
" People are interested in joining the club
" We are working on when to schedule it, looking at early next year. January or February to start.
" It will be 2 days a week.
" Pilar Amir is putting together a program
7. Toy Gathering Mass
" We do it together as a school and the Christian Service Program
" The mass will be on the 14th of December, as the Christian Service needs the toys before the 21st of December.
OPEN DISCUSSION
" Since the auction did so well, we may have a slush fund so to speak…do we have a wish list?
" Yes, we are looking at Smart Boards. Vito Maria and Mr. Muir are looking at them. We will give them to the teachers who are ready for them.

New Hot Lunch Programs
" Fred, from Mr. Jiffy's spoke to the group about doing a hot lunch Monday- Thursday.
" His company has been doing this in the Valley for 20 years and they have 26 schools that they provide for.
" They will be putting together a menu with a variety of foods that they offer.
" Food amount are distributed by the age of the student and is served buffet style. (The food is not individually wrapped) There will be people (provided by the company) that will serve the students. (No need for parent volunteers)
" The cost will be $5.00 per child, water bottle included.
" How the program is set up is flexible by the school.
" We will serve the food outside, so it is located near the pavilion
" The company has an "A" rating and is located near Victory and Van Owen
" A parent committee went to a food tasting and really liked the foods.
" We can start the program in January on a trial basis and see how it works out.
Subway VS. In-N-Out Burger
" Another parent suggested to have Subway catering in the school, as from a nutritional standpoint it is considered to be a healthier option.
" They offer a variety of sandwiches which run from $1.70- $2.49.
" The school can add to the price for fundraising.
" After much discussion, it was decided that we could offer Subway on a certain day; just as we offer In-N-Out Burger- it can be on the calendar.
" Look for flyers in the family envelope for dates
Earth Fest- Molly Anderson and Dena Jackels
" The event will be held on April 25-26th Friday evening and Saturday
" We need more involvement…. last year we did not have enough interest.
" We are looking at any connections
" Super raffle will be during Earth fest.
" We are also in need of subcommittee chairs to organize the bake sale, farmers market, security, vendors, various activities and concessions.
" There will be an international theme, so there will be food from other outlets.
" Each grade will be responsible for game booths/activities, i.e. Dino Dig, Softball Toss, Bowling, bouncers, etc.
" Friday evening there will be a movie night in the hall.
" We need people with trucks to move recyclable items to the plant…we will need someone to organize a recycling contest.
" Different clubs such as the Men's Club, Chess Club, etc. can sponsor an event.
" A big aspect of the fest will be educational, as we will have an environmental assembly to talk to the kids about recycling and being earth conscience.
" We would like any contacts that anyone has with other restaurants that could come in. We just need to be careful with people who want to bring their own food and serve it to the public.
Last week of the month is Catholic school week
Faculty Birthdays…
Teachers and faculty pick a $50.00 gift certificate from scrip.
PVC pays for it and delivers it to them on their birthday with a card and flowers/ small plant.
Another discussion…
" There was concern from a parent about the school being too open during parent/teacher conferences…. suggestion that we could have 2 days off when the conferences could be held. They were concerned about kids getting lost in the shuffle during pick up.
" January 13th Mass is the 1st grade mass, the calendar date on-line is correct.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
